The Faith-Filled Pivot: Navigating Business Transitions at Any Age

If you’ve been following my journey at TM Training and Consulting, you know how much I love what I do. Helping leaders grow, helping businesses thrive, and creating spaces where people can reach their full potential: it’s truly enjoyable. But lately, I’ve found myself in a season of deep reflection. I’ve been hitting the "pause" button more often, getting quiet, and asking a very big, very real question: “Lord, is this still where You want me to be right now?”

Transitions are funny things. They often start as a tiny whisper or a gentle nudge in your spirit before they turn into a full-blown roar. And if I’m being completely honest with you, I’m in the middle of one of those nudges right now. I’m in a period of prayer, seeking God’s guidance for what’s next.

One thing I’ve realized during this time is that there’s a common misconception out there: especially for women in business. We tend to think that by the time we hit a certain age in life, we should have it all figured out. We think we should be "locked in" to our path. But I’m here to tell you, at 47 years old, it is more than okay to pivot. In fact, if God is the one calling you to move, it’s the only thing you should be doing.

Age is Just a Number, But Calling is Eternal

Let’s talk about that number for a second: 47. For some, it feels like the "middle" or even the "home stretch" of a career. But in God’s timeline, age doesn’t limit your ability to start something new. Whether you are 27, 47, or 67, if He is shifting your direction, He has already equipped you for the new terrain.

I’ve spent the last few years building TM Training and Consulting, and while I am so proud of what has been accomplished, I’ve had to give myself permission to evolve. Pivoting isn't about throwing away everything you’ve built; it’s about taking the wisdom, the skills, and the "receipts" of your experience and applying them to the next assignment He has for you.

Grounding Your Transition in Truth

When the "what’s next" feels a bit blurry, it’s easy to get anxious. I’ve had those moments where I wonder if I’m making the right choice or if I’m just "restless." That’s when I have to go back to the ultimate promise.

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Notice that it doesn’t say He has plans for you only until you turn 40. Or that His plans expire once you’ve established a successful business. His plans are dynamic. They are intentional. When we navigate a transition with faith, we aren't just looking for a new "business strategy": we are looking for His footprint.

How to Navigate the "In-Between"

If you’re feeling a similar nudge, you might be wondering how to actually move forward when you don’t have all the answers yet. Here is how I’m navigating this period of uncertainty, and I hope these steps help you too:

1. Pray for Clarity (And Then Listen)

It’s easy to talk at God about our plans, but it’s harder to sit quietly and listen for His. I’ve been integrating prayer into my daily business routine. Before I check emails or look at my calendar, I’m asking for clarity. “Lord, open the doors that need to be opened and close the ones that aren't for me anymore.” If you are looking for a shift, start by asking for the spirit of discernment.

2. Seek Wise Counsel

You don’t have to do this alone. Even as a consultant who gives advice for a living, I need mentors and spiritual advisors in my corner. Reach out to people who understand both the business world and the life of faith. Sometimes, a fresh set of eyes can see the "new thing" God is doing before you can. You can learn more about my heart for supporting others on the About page.

3. Do a "Heart Check"

Ask yourself: Is my current path still aligned with my values? Sometimes we stay in a lane because it’s comfortable or because people expect us to. But if your mission no longer reflects where your heart is, it’s time to reassess. A faith-filled pivot is all about ensuring your work reflects your walk with Christ.

4. Embrace the "Slow-Down"

In the business world, we are taught that "fast is best." But God often works in the stillness. Don't feel like you have to have a 10-page business plan for your pivot by tomorrow. It’s okay to take it one step at a time. Faith is stepping out when you can only see the next few inches in front of you.

To My Fellow Women Leaders and Entrepreneurs

I especially want to speak to the women: the Black women entrepreneurs and leaders who are out there grinding and building. We often carry a lot of pressure to be "strong" and "consistent." We feel like if we change our minds or our direction, we are letting people down.

But let me tell you: there is so much strength in surrender. If God is nudging you toward a different path, it’s because there is someone out there who needs exactly what you are about to create. Your "Version 2.0" (or 3.0, or 4.0!) is just as necessary as your current version. Don’t let the fear of what people will think: or the fear of starting over: keep you from your calling.

We serve a God of new beginnings. He isn't surprised by your desire to pivot at 47. He’s the one who put the desire there in the first place!

Trusting the Process

Transitions aren't always pretty. There are days of doubt, days of "what if," and days where the fog feels a bit thick. But when you anchor yourself in the knowledge that His plans are to prosper you, the fog starts to lift.

I don't know exactly what the future of TM Training and Consulting looks like in its next iteration, but I know who holds the blueprint. And that gives me so much peace. If you’re feeling the nudge, I want to encourage you to lean into it. Don’t ignore it. Don’t bury it under a pile of busy work. Bring it to the Lord, trust His timing, and get ready for the beautiful thing He’s about to do.

Let’s Connect

Are you going through a transition in your career or business right now? I would love to hear your story and how you’re leaning on your faith to get through it. We are all in this together, and sometimes just knowing you aren’t the only one "pivoting" makes all the difference.

Let’s commit to embracing the pivot, trusting the plan, and moving forward with grace: no matter our age.

Stay blessed,

Tywanna
